The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a contract worth $19,129,000 to HCPA-GARCO for the construction of an emergency power plant-fuel storage facility at Cavalier Space Force Station. The project is scheduled for completion by December 9, 2026, with work taking place in Cavalier. The contracting activity is being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District.

Cavalier Space Force Station, located in eastern North Dakota, houses the 10th Space Warning Squadron. This unit operates and maintains the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS), a phased-array radar system that tracks over half of all earth-orbiting objects. This capability allows the station to provide critical missile warning and space surveillance data to entities such as North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), United States Space Command, and combatant commanders.

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who serves as co-chair of the Senate Space Force Caucus and is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, commented on the significance of this development: “It’s certainly no secret that tensions across the world are heightened, and installations like Cavalier Space Force Station are as important or more important than ever,” he said. He emphasized that "this fuel storage facility is going to help build out the infrastructure at the Cavalier station," describing it as not only essential to North Dakota's defense ecosystem but also a crucial national defense asset. According to Senator Cramer, maintaining America's advantage in space against potential adversaries hinges on expanding defense assets in locations like Cavalier.
