Senator John Hoeven announced that the National Park Service is awarding over $1 million in funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to the North Dakota Department of Parks & Recreation. The funds will be used to renovate and increase the number of campsites at Sully Creek State Park.

The grant amounts to $1,262,300 and will be used specifically for renovating and reconfiguring the road network to accommodate more campsites. It also includes the installation of camper pads, water, and 50-amp utilities at Sully Creek State Park.

“The National Park Service’s funding will support efforts to ensure North Dakota’s parks, including Sully Creek State Park, have the facilities needed to deliver an improved camping experience for locals and visitors, ensuring they are able to fully take advantage of the abundant attractions our state offers,” said Hoeven.

The LWCF was established by Congress in 1964 to support federal and state investment in conservation of natural areas, water resources, and outdoor recreation. The primary source of revenue for the LWCF comes from federal oil and gas leases on the Outer Continental Shelf. In 2020, Hoeven helped advance the Great American Outdoors Act, which ensures that the LWCF is fully funded each year.
