U.S. Representative Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota has expressed approval of Judge Daniel Traynor's decision to temporarily block the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) venting and flaring rule.
“Energy is the backbone of North Dakota’s economy, yet climate extremists and the bureaucrats in the Biden-Harris Administration continue to attempt to chip away at our freedoms and ability to manage our resources," said Armstrong. "While I am encouraged by Judge Traynor’s temporary block of BLM’s venting and flaring rule, I am seriously concerned by the Administration's attack on our oil and gas industries and the lasting impacts associated with each decision. In Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues to protect our resources and support the industries that fuel our economy.”
The BLM issued a final ruling in April restricting the venting or flaring of excess gas during production. North Dakota is leading a lawsuit against this rule.
On September 13, 2024, U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Traynor ruled to block BLM from enforcing this rule in North Dakota, Montana, Texas, Wyoming, and Utah. This ruling remains pending based on the outcome of the case.
