Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee, voted for a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the U.S. Department of Energy’s final rule on gas furnace efficiency standards. Hoeven introduced the CRA with Senator Ted Cruz to block the Biden administration’s rule, which mandates that manufacturers sell only furnaces converting at least 95% of fuel into heat.

The Biden rule effectively bans all non-condensing furnace models, compelling many American households to adopt electric heat pumps or incur significant expenses to renovate their homes to comply with new residential gas furnace requirements.

“We introduced and passed this CRA to stop the Biden administration’s de facto ban on the sale of conventional, affordable natural gas furnaces,” said Hoeven. “Instead of siding with American consumers and allowing them to continue to have the option to use these furnaces, the Biden administration continues to push their costly Green New Deal agenda on the American people.”
