U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, along with Senators John Thune and Dick Durbin, has sent a letter to President Joe Biden requesting the sale of E15 fuel during the 2024 summer driving season by extending the RVP waiver nationwide from June 1 through September 15.
In the letter, the senators explain, “Permitting the sale of higher blends of biofuels like E15 through the summer driving season bolsters the domestic fuel supply, lowers consumer costs, and promotes the environmental benefits of American biofuels and modern agriculture.”
The letter emphasizes the importance of pursuing an all-the-above energy strategy, including leveraging domestic biofuels. By extending the nationwide sale of E15, the letter notes that this could add billions of gallons of ethanol to the fuel supply at a time when domestic inventories of crude oil and petroleum products are at their lowest point since May 2004. Furthermore, it would enhance the robust market for U.S. exports of oil and petroleum products.
The request for the nationwide waiver for E15 fuel sales during the 2024 driving season has garnered support from a number of other senators including Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, Tammy Duckworth, Joni Ernst, Deb Fischer, Chuck Grassley, Josh Hawley, John Hoeven, Amy Klobuchar, Roger Marshall, Jerry Moran, Gary Peters, Pete Ricketts, Mike Rounds, Tina Smith, Debbie Stabenow, and J.D. Vance.
