In his address, Senator Hoeven emphasized the significance of the FY24 Defense Appropriations legislation, stating, "The FY24 Defense Appropriations legislation provides strong support for our military and bolsters North Dakota’s growing role in the defense of our nation." He stressed the importance of modernizing the nation's nuclear forces to enhance deterrence against potential adversaries.
Hoeven outlined key funding allocations in the FY24 bill that are crucial for Minot Air Force Base’s dual nuclear mission, including support for the Sentinel Land-Based Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), upgrades for the B-52 bomber, funding for the Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSO), and the procurement of MH-139 Grey Wolf Helicopters.
The senator also shared updates from his discussion with Air Force Chief of Staff General David Allvin regarding the Air Force’s FY25 budget request and the status of nuclear modernization programs. Hoeven expressed his commitment to highlighting North Dakota's increasing role in U.S. national defense through his statewide military tour, with scheduled meetings in Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Fargo.
As Hoeven continues his tour to outline important priorities included in the FY24 defense funding legislation, Minot serves as the first stop on the itinerary, setting the stage for discussions on the state's contributions to national security and defense modernization efforts.
