Senator John Hoeven today issued a statement applauding the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn the State of Colorado's disqualification of former President Trump from the state's ballot. In a unanimous ruling, SCOTUS deemed that the state officials had overstepped their authority in this matter.
"SCOTUS made the right call in recognizing that the State of Colorado and other state-level officials exceeded their authority in removing President Trump from the ballot. Now, the decision goes back to voters, where it belongs," said Hoeven.
Earlier this year, Senator Hoeven had joined an amicus brief led by Senator Ted Cruz in opposition to Colorado's actions, advocating for the reversal of the decision.
With this ruling, the issue of President Trump's eligibility for the ballot returns to the voters of Colorado, allowing them to make the final decision on his inclusion.
The overturning of Colorado's disqualification by SCOTUS has been met with approval by Senator Hoeven, emphasizing the importance of respecting the voters' right to choose their candidates.
