Senator John Hoeven has been actively working to secure funding for future phases of flood protection in Minot, North Dakota. In a recent meeting with Minot city officials and representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Hoeven emphasized the importance of completing the Maple Diversion project and securing additional funding for comprehensive flood protection in the region.

"We have made tremendous progress in building up flood protection in Minot, but there is still a great deal of work to do," said Senator Hoeven. "Bringing the Maple Diversion to completion is key, and that’s why we’re supporting efforts to reach a fair agreement with the railroads."

Hoeven highlighted the significance of the Maple Diversion, stating that it serves as the capstone for other phases of Milestone 1 and ultimately provides flood protection to 60 percent of the region. He has been working closely with local leaders and railroads to ensure a fair agreement is reached to meet the flood protection needs of the Minot region.

In addition to the Maple Diversion project, Senator Hoeven is collaborating with the Corps to secure additional funding through the Continuing Authorities Program (CAP) to address other portions of the flood protection project, including the dead ox-bow loops. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the Corps' expertise to plan and design future elements of the project.

Hoeven's dedication to advancing comprehensive flood protection for the Minot region is evident through his efforts to secure over $750 million in federal funding for grants, loans, and direct assistance. The funding has been allocated for various projects, including the Mouse River flood fight, Phase 4 Maple Diversion, Department of Defense Community Infrastructure Grant, emergency relief road repairs, public assistance for infrastructure damage, FEMA Individual Assistance, SBA disaster loans, Community Development Block Grants, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, and Economic Development Assistance – Disaster Recovery Grants.

Today's meeting with city officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is part of Senator Hoeven's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and resilience of the Minot region against the threat of future flooding.
