The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced the awarding of two grants, totaling $5,677,883, to the North Dakota Department of Transportation. These grants are part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Federal Highway Administration Emergency Relief Program and will aid in addressing the aftermath of severe weather events in the state.

The first grant, amounting to $4,777,883, will be used to tackle the extensive damage caused by severe flooding in Eastern North Dakota on April 12, 2022. This flooding resulted in the destruction of culverts and erosion of roadways on state and county roads. The funds from this grant will enable the North Dakota Department of Transportation to undertake crucial repairs and restoration efforts.

Additionally, a grant of $900,000 has been allocated to address the damages incurred during a weather event on April 10, 2023. This event brought about significant overland and riverine flooding, leading to a landslide, damage to culverts, and erosion of roadways. The funds provided by this grant will aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected areas.
