Train strikes pedestrian in fatal crash at Grandin railroad crossing

A fatal incident occurred on Friday, October 24, at the 3rd Street Railroad Crossing in Grandin. A pedestrian, Barbara Graalum, aged 71 from Grandin, was struck by a northbound Canadian National train while walking west on 3rd Street. The collision resulted in fatal injuries to Graalum, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Other agencies involved include the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Grandin Fire Department, Gardner Fire Department, Sanford Ambulance, Hunter Ambulance, Grandin Quick Response Unit, and BNSF Police.

Weather and road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the accident.
