Beginning at 8:30 p.m. CST on October 16, 2025, Williams County officials will restrict all county and township gravel and chip seal roads in every zone (zones 1-6) to a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 20,000 pounds. This decision comes after recent rainfall in the area. Any previously approved permits for these roads will be voided as of that time.
Earlier in the day, starting at 4:30 p.m., the same roads were restricted to a 6-ton axle weight limit with an overall GVW cap of 80,000 pounds. However, Brooklyn Township gravel roads remain under the stricter 20,000-pound GVW restriction.
Officials stated that all prior permits are voided once these restrictions take effect. They also indicated that road conditions will continue to be evaluated throughout the day and into tomorrow.
Additionally, beginning at 9:00 a.m., similar restrictions were applied to zones 2 and 5, while zones 3 and 6 had restrictions set from 7:00 a.m., both with an axle weight limit of six tons and a total GVW limit of 80,000 pounds.
The county will continue to monitor road conditions to determine when it is safe to lift these restrictions.
