The Mandan Progress Organization (MPO), Visit Mandan, the City of Mandan, and Mandan Rodeo Days have announced plans for "Celebrate 250," the city's 2026 Independence Day celebration. The event will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States and is set to be one of the largest patriotic gatherings in Mandan’s history.
A range of events are scheduled for the weekend, including the return of Art in the Park, the Fourth of July 5k Road Race, and Mandan Rodeo Days. A key highlight will be North Dakota's largest Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2026. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street and marks its 146th year as one of North Dakota’s longest-running parades. This year’s theme is “Celebrate 250,” with floats and performances reflecting America’s story from 1776 to 2026.
“This parade is where Mandan’s spirit shines brightest,” said Matt Schanandore, Executive Director of the Mandan Progress Organization. “It’s a living celebration of our community and our country, a reminder that Mandan doesn’t just watch history, we make it.”
Parade float registration is open at VisitMandan.com/parade-signup until June 12, 2026, or until all spots are filled. Floats must align with patriotic themes such as Spirit of 1776 or Home of the Brave. A new contest series will recognize entries for creativity in categories like best historical representation or tribute to first responders.
On July 3, a new event called Prairie Pyro-Musical will debut as part of the festivities. Produced by Pegasus Illuminations from Mott, ND, this fireworks show aims to offer an immersive experience with synchronized music and pyrotechnics.
“The NEW Prairie Pyro-Musical brings something never before seen in central North Dakota,” Schanandore said. “It’s more than fireworks — it’s a sensory experience, a symphony of light and sound that celebrates who we are as a community and as a nation.”
The celebration also includes traditional events such as the Mandan Rodeo at Dale Pahlke Arena from July 2–4. The rodeo expects over 500 professional participants competing in various events like bronc riding and barrel racing.
Additionally, Dykshoorn and Heritage Parks will host Art in the Park Festival throughout the holiday weekend with artists, food vendors, and live music.
Mayor Jim Froelich commented on what he described as one of Mandan's most significant celebrations: “Mandan has built a reputation as one of the most spirited Independence Day destinations in America,” Froelich said. “As we celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, this parade and the Prairie Pyro-Musical will stand as symbols of Mandan’s enduring pride, patriotism and community spirit. It’s our moment to honor the past, celebrate the present and inspire the future.”
