The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has begun accepting applications for its Special Road Fund (SRF) program. The SRF is designed to support highway projects that improve roads providing access to recreational, tourist, and historical sites.
The program aims to assist political subdivisions, tribal governments, and state agencies that have identified road projects but require additional funding. “The Special Roads Fund is a great opportunity to help improve access roads to and within tourist, historical, and public recreational areas,” said NDDOT Director Ron Henke. “We encourage counties, cities, state agencies, and tribal governments to apply, and to share this program with other agencies within their jurisdictions such as park boards, historical societies, and townships.”
This year’s funding arrangement has changed to an 80/20 split between the fund and applicants. The maximum available from the SRF per project is $500,000.
Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2025 for projects planned for construction in 2026 or 2027. The Special Road Fund Advisory Committee is expected to review applications and select projects for funding in early 2026.
