North Dakota is observing Substance Use Prevention Month by encouraging various community groups to take part in prevention efforts. The state is urging parents and caregivers to start conversations with children about the dangers of substance use, recommending resources available at parentslead.org.

Students and families are invited to participate in the statewide Parents Lead Billboard Contest, which allows them to share their own prevention messages. More information about the contest can be found at parentslead.org.

Schools and educators are being asked to include prevention topics in classroom activities and help build resilience among students. Businesses and employers are encouraged to distribute prevention resources to their staff and create workplace policies that support healthy behaviors.

Law enforcement agencies and community partners are advised to apply evidence-based strategies such as compliance checks and forming coalitions within communities.

A Substance Use Prevention Month Toolkit is available for everyone at hhs.nd.gov/behavioral-health/prevention-month. Residents are also encouraged to connect with local coalitions and share their personal stories related to prevention.
