Governor Kelly Armstrong | North Dakota State Executive - Tax Commissioner
Governor Kelly Armstrong has ordered that all United States and North Dakota flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The directive applies to all government agencies, and residents of North Dakota are also encouraged to lower their flags at homes and businesses in remembrance.
“As Americans, our lives were changed forever when evil struck our nation 24 years ago. We continue to observe 9/11 in honor of the innocent victims, the heroes who gave their lives and those who continue to be affected by the tragic events of that fateful day. We will never forget, and we will always be grateful for the sacrifices of those who protect our liberty and work toward a more peaceful world with freedom for all,” Armstrong said.
The governor’s order follows a joint resolution from Congress that designates September 11 as Patriot Day each year. Federal law also calls for observing this date as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. People across the country are encouraged to participate in a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. Central Daylight Time in memory of those lost in the attacks.
