Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) is partnering with Heartview Foundation to provide a free Narcan training session. The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, at BBPH, located at 407 S. 26th St.
The session aims to educate participants on recognizing opioid overdose signs and administering Narcan, a medication used to temporarily restore breathing during an overdose involving fentanyl or other opioids. Each participant will receive a free Narcan kit.
“Training our community and workplaces in the use of Narcan is an important life-saving solution. Safe communities are strong communities,” said Cathy Palczewski, opioid treatment program case manager at Heartview Foundation. “Heartview Foundation is happy to partner with BBPH because this training helps both value people’s lives and save people’s lives.”
Susan Kahler, substance abuse prevention coordinator at BBPH, stated: “Our goal is to train the public on the signs and symptoms of an overdose, the immediate actions they should take to get first responders to the scene, and steps to stabilize and potentially revive an individual who has overdosed.”
Registration for the event is required as space is limited. Those interested can sign up by calling 701-355-1597 or visiting https://www.eventbrite.com/e/free-narcan-training-september-17th-tickets-1530492236479.
BBPH receives funding from State Opioid Response Grants that help support these Narcan training sessions as well as prescription drug take-back events.
