A rest area on Interstate 94 near Lynchburg, North Dakota, is set to close temporarily for repairs starting Thursday, August 28. The Lynchburg Rest Area, located at mile marker 327 and about 20 miles west of Fargo, serves travelers heading eastbound.
The planned repairs will involve removing and replacing the old bathroom vault. Additional work includes fixing drainage issues in the parking lot and installing a new sidewalk. According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), the project is expected to take about one month.
At the same time, another nearby facility—the Oriska Rest Area at mile marker 304—is being rebuilt and will remain closed until Fall 2026. These two locations are consecutive stops for those traveling eastbound on I-94. With both rest areas out of service temporarily, NDDOT advises motorists to use facilities available in cities along their route.
"The North Dakota Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to slow down and use caution throughout work zones," the agency stated.
