The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has announced a change in traffic control for the Memorial Highway reconstruction project at the 46th Avenue Southeast intersection in Bismarck. Starting Tuesday, August 26, certain movements at this intersection will be fully closed to allow crews enough space to safely complete underground utility and paving work. This closure is expected to last until at least the week of September 22.

During the closure, construction crews will focus on storm sewer, water main, aggregate, and paving operations in the affected area. As a result, Memorial Highway traffic will be reduced to head-to-head movement on the north side of the roadway.

Drivers using the south exit ramp can take the flyover bridge into Bismarck or turn right onto Memorial Highway. However, crossing over to 46th Avenue or making a left turn back toward the I-94 Business Loop will not be possible during this period. Traffic from 46th Avenue Southeast will also not have direct access to Memorial Highway and must use alternate routes such as 21st Street Southeast or the McKenzie Interchange.

To help ease detour congestion, paving work on 21st Street Southeast is scheduled to begin Monday, August 25. The street is expected to reopen by Tuesday, August 26, providing an additional route for drivers while access from 46th Avenue remains restricted.

Motorists are encouraged to check www.dot.nd.gov/memorialhwy for updates and download maps showing current closures. The NDDOT reminds all drivers to stay alert and drive safely through work zones.
