The Fargo National Cemetery is set to host a ceremony on August 14, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the Unconditional Surrender of Japan and the formal end of World War II. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public, with veterans, active-duty service members, local officials, and community leaders expected to attend.
Brigadier General Jason Benson of the Minnesota Army National Guard will deliver remarks during the ceremony. Other activities include a Three-Rifle Volley Salute, Reading of Names of World War II Veterans, Wreath Laying Ceremony, Echo Taps Performance, and a Moment of Silence.
The commemoration aims to honor the legacy and sacrifices made by members of what has been called the Greatest Generation. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early and bring lawn chairs for seating comfort.
Fargo National Cemetery is operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs as part of its national cemetery system. The facility is intended to serve more than 30,000 veterans and their eligible family members in the future.
The Fargo National Cemetery Volunteer Committee clarified that it is not affiliated with either United States Veteran Affairs or the National Cemetery Administration and does not represent these entities in any official capacity.
