A fatal crash occurred on Highway 83, south of Minot, on Friday, August 1, at approximately 10:59 AM. The incident involved two vehicles in a rear-end collision under clear and sunny conditions with dry roads.

The vehicles involved were a 2018 Ford Escape and a 1992 Geo Metro. Jennifer Hartman, 61, from Parshall, was driving the Ford Escape and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Duane Biewer, 73, from Minot, was driving the Geo Metro and suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash led to the Geo Metro veering into a ditch while the Ford Escape stopped on the shoulder of the road. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.

Agencies responding to the scene included the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), Ward County Sheriff’s Office, Minot Rural Fire Department, and Trinity Health First Response.
