A fatal crash occurred on Highway 83, south of Minot, on Friday, August 1, at around 10:59 AM. The incident involved two vehicles in a rear-end collision under clear and sunny weather conditions.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), Ward County Sheriff’s Office, Minot Rural Fire, and Trinity Health First Response were the agencies that responded to the scene.
The first vehicle involved was a 2018 Ford Escape driven by a 61-year-old woman from Parshall. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Charges related to her involvement are still under investigation.
The second vehicle was a 1992 Geo Metro driven by a 73-year-old man from Minot who suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and no charges have been filed against him.
According to the NDHP's narrative, both vehicles were traveling northbound when the Ford Escape rear-ended the Geo Metro. The impact caused the Geo Metro to veer into a ditch while the Ford Escape stopped on the shoulder of the road. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
