Single-vehicle crash in Cross Ranch State Park results in charges for driver

A single-vehicle crash occurred in Cross Ranch State Park, Oliver County, on Sunday, July 27, 2025. The incident took place at approximately 2:48 PM under clear and sunny conditions. The road was dry at the time of the crash.

The vehicle involved was a 2008 GMC Yukon driven by Dean Grandy, 47, from Minot. According to reports, the vehicle accelerated and collided head-on with a tree. Grandy suffered minor injuries while a juvenile male passenger sustained serious injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

Both individuals were transported to Sanford Medical Center Bismarck for medical treatment. Charges against Grandy include DUI with a Minor-Class A Misdemeanor, Reckless Endangerment: Extreme Indifference-Class C Felony, Child Neglect-Class C Felony, and No proof of liability insurance-Moving violation.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Agencies involved in responding to the incident included NDHP, Oliver County Fire/Rescue, Oliver County Ambulance, Oliver County Sheriff’s Office, and Cross Ranch State Park Rangers.
