On July 26, 2025, a fatal crash occurred on 65th Avenue NE, south of US Highway 2 in Benson County. The North Dakota Highway Patrol was alerted to a submerged vehicle in Stink Lake. Upon arrival, investigators found tire marks in the gravel, suggesting a recent rollover crash.

The vehicle involved was identified as a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Rita Kubat, 67, from Jamestown. Authorities confirmed that Kubat was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Toyota had entered the west ditch and rolled over large rocks before coming to rest on its roof in Stink Lake. The exact date and time of the crash remain unknown. Agencies involved in responding to the incident included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, US Border Patrol, ND Game & Fish Department, Lake Region Search & Rescue, Leeds Ambulance Service, and Leeds Fire Department.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
