A fatal accident involving three vehicles occurred on July 25, 2025, on North Dakota Highway 3 at mile marker 126 in Kidder County. The crash involved a Pontiac G6, a Chevrolet Equinox, and a Dodge Challenger.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident happened when the Pontiac G6 was traveling southbound in the northbound lane. It sideswiped a northbound Chevrolet Equinox, causing the Pontiac to become airborne and collide with another northbound vehicle, a Dodge Challenger.
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, a 47-year-old male from Harvey, was not injured and had been wearing a seatbelt. In contrast, both drivers of the Pontiac G6 and Dodge Challenger were ejected from their vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger in the Dodge Challenger, a 62-year-old male from Eagle Butte, SD, sustained serious injuries despite wearing a seatbelt. He was transported for medical treatment via ground and air ambulance.
The crash is currently under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Agencies involved in responding to the incident included the Kidder County Sheriff’s Office, Steele Police Department, McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Bowdon Ambulance, Steele Ambulance, Kidder County EMS, and Wing Ambulance.
