The Big Sticks secured a narrow 1-0 victory over the Larks on Sunday evening, relying on just one crucial run to clinch the game.
Parker Aten, starting pitcher for the Larks, initially dominated with five no-hit innings. The tide turned when Thomas Maher broke the no-hitter in the sixth inning with a ground ball over third base. This play allowed Maher to advance to third base. Samson Pugh then reached base on an infield single. In a strategic move with two outs, Pugh entered a rundown between first and second base, enabling Maher to dash home from third. A throw by Carson Luna pulled Will Millard away from the plate, allowing Maher to score and secure the Big Sticks' lead.
Kobe Krenz started for the Big Sticks, pitching 3.2 innings while conceding only one hit and two walks before leaving due to forearm tightness. Jake Fuller took over and delivered an impressive performance, giving up just one hit across 3.1 innings and striking out four batters. “I was filling up the zone and trusting my defense that they would make the plays behind me,” Fuller stated.
