Two-vehicle crash in Steele County leaves driver seriously injured

A two-vehicle crash occurred on Steele County Road 8, south of ND Highway 200, about 10 miles east of Finley, on July 17, 2025. The incident took place at approximately 11:26 a.m. under good road and weather conditions.

The collision involved a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Peterbilt truck tractor with a side dump gravel trailer. Madeline Sharpe, aged 31 from Devils Lake, ND, was driving the Jeep. She sustained serious injuries in the crash. A juvenile male passenger in the Jeep also suffered injuries. Both were using restraints at the time of the accident.

Martin Iverson, aged 53 from Hillsboro, ND, was driving the Peterbilt truck and did not sustain any injuries. He was also wearing a seatbelt.

According to reports, both vehicles were traveling northbound on Steele County Road 8 when the Peterbilt slowed down to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with ND Highway 200. The Jeep collided with the rear of the gravel trailer after cresting a hill.

Emergency services from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Steele County Sheriff Department, West Traill Ambulance Service, Hatton Fire Department, and Portland Fire Department. The injured occupants of the Jeep were transported by ambulance for medical attention.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is currently investigating this incident.
