Senator John Hoeven has announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has allocated over $31 million to various airports in North Dakota. A significant portion, $13.4 million, is designated for Hector International Airport's terminal expansion project. This expansion will add 35,245 square feet to the terminal, including four new gates and a new apron. Senator Hoeven has secured more than $53 million for this project and aims to obtain an additional $17 million in federal funding.
The project at Hector International Airport is expected to conclude in 2027. It includes constructing a parking garage with an elevated walkway set to open later this year, expanding the terminal with new boarding gates, and renovating existing gates.
Additional grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been awarded to other North Dakota airports for infrastructure projects such as runway rehabilitation and taxiway construction. These projects aim to enhance safety, extend facility life, meet regulatory standards, and increase airport capacity.
Senator Hoeven emphasized the importance of these investments: “These federal investments in North Dakota’s airports are vital to supporting our state’s economic growth and improving connectivity for communities across our state,” he said. He added that the improvements at Fargo Airport would help meet future travel demands safely and efficiently.
