Wood chips will soon be available for free on a trial basis at two designated grass collection sites in Bismarck. The two locations are Santa Fe Ave & 12th St (Cottonwood Park parking lot) and the Ash Coulee Water Tower.

The Forestry Division will provide wood chips produced by tree work they perform at these locations for use by local homeowners. Piles will be replenished as workload and work location allow. These wood chips are not for commercial use; commercial contractors can pick up free single grind woodchips from the landfill. Bismarck residents also have the option to pick up free single grind wood chips at the landfill. Residents are advised to bring a shovel to load their own wood chips.

It is important to note that tree branches and twigs are still not accepted at grass collection sites and should be disposed of at the landfill.
