Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is collaborating with local service providers, community organizations, and volunteers to conduct the 2025 Summer Unsheltered Point in Time (PIT) Count. This event will take place on the night of July 9.
The PIT Count aims to determine the number of individuals and households experiencing unsheltered homelessness in a single night. This summer initiative aligns with North Dakota's efforts to gather data during warmer months, complementing the federal count mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development each January.
Outreach teams and volunteers will canvass the community from 10 p.m. on July 9 until 4 a.m. on July 10, seeking out those without shelter. Survey teams will collect basic demographic information and connect these individuals with local services and resources. The count provides a real-time snapshot of unsheltered homelessness, aiding in local planning, funding, and service delivery.
"This effort helps us identify gaps in our community, ensure everyone is accounted for, and determine what services are needed to better support our community," said Renae Moch, Public Health Director for Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health.
Teams will visit areas where people without housing often stay—such as streets, parks, vehicles, and other non-habitable places—to collect data crucial for identifying community needs and securing support to address homelessness.
