Fatal crash on Highway 83 leaves one dead; three injured

A fatal crash occurred on Highway 83, north of Max, on Thursday, May 29, at approximately 11:15 PM. The incident involved a wrong-way, head-on collision between two vehicles: a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2023 Ford F250 towing a car trailer.

Rickey Vetter, aged 70 from Maxbass, was driving the Chevrolet Silverado. He was traveling north in the southbound lanes before turning around and heading south in the northbound lanes. At mile marker 175, Vetter's vehicle collided with the Ford F250. Vetter died at the scene.

The Ford F250 was driven by Timothy Goodwin, aged 31 from Williston. Goodwin sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers were also in the Ford F250: Larissa Lake, aged 30 from Williston, and a juvenile. Both passengers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All three were transported to Trinity Health Hospital in Minot for treatment.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into this crash with assistance from several local agencies including the Ward County Sheriff’s Office and Max/Garrison Ambulance.
