Train collides with vehicle in Stutsman County; driver arrested for DUI

A train collision occurred in Stutsman County on June 27, 2025, at approximately 11:54 PM CST. The incident took place on the 3600 block of 74th Ave SE, about two miles west of Eldridge. The crash involved a vehicle and a train during wet and rainy conditions.

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 27-year-old male from Jamestown, ND. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. According to reports, the Chevrolet was traveling southbound when it failed to yield and attempted to cross the railroad tracks. A Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) train traveling westbound struck the rear of the Chevrolet, causing it to spin off the tracks.

Emergency services including the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department, Jamestown Ambulance, and Jamestown Fire Department responded to the scene. The driver received medical treatment on-site and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
