With the 2025 Mandan Independence Day Parade approaching, organizers have announced a temporary change to this year’s parade staging and viewing areas. Due to ongoing phases of the North Dakota Department of Transportation's Memorial Highway Reconstruction Project, adjustments are being made for both the staging and spectator areas of the July 4th event.

Parade staging will now occur along West Memorial Highway from Third Street SE to Mandan Avenue, resulting in no public viewing along Memorial Highway this year. Instead, attendees are encouraged to explore new viewing spots along Main Street. "We understand that watching the parade from Memorial Highway has been a beloved tradition for many families, and that will return," said Matt Schanandore, Executive Director of the Mandan Progress Organization. "However, for the safety of all spectators and participants, this temporary move was necessary. We invite everyone to embrace the change and experience the excitement and energy along Main Street this year."

Spectators should arrive early to secure locations along Main Street, which remains the main parade route. The Classic Car Parade begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Grand Parade at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, July 4.

To accommodate changes, West Memorial Highway from Third St. SE to Mandan Ave will close at 6 a.m. on July 4 until after the parade concludes. Access to nearby businesses will be maintained; however, drivers should plan for increased congestion when entering Mandan that morning. Alternate routes such as I-94 Exits 152 (Sunset Drive) and 153 (Mandan Avenue) are recommended.

"As we prepare for another unforgettable Independence Day in Mandan, I want to thank our community for adapting to this year’s changes," stated Mandan Mayor Jim Froelich. "Even though the view may shift, the spirit of the 4th of July in Mandan shines just as brightly."

The mayor also reminded spectators about safety during the parade and advised against approaching floats for candy retrieval.

Mandan hosts North Dakota’s largest Independence Day celebrations with events including Art in the Park, Mandan Rodeo Days, and an all-American parade through town.
