On Wednesday, June 11, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 18 and Cass County Road 26. The incident involved a cement truck and a Kenworth pulling a loaded trailer. The road and weather conditions were reported as good at the time of the crash.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Sanford Ambulance-Fargo, Hunter Ambulance Service, Arthur Volunteer Fire Department, Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, and Grandin-Gardner Fire Department responded to the scene.

Eric Comer Jr., 34, from Ft. Myers, Florida, was driving a 2026 Western Star cement truck westbound on Cass County Road 26. Comer failed to yield at the intersection with Highway 18. Lyle Fuglestad, 78, from Minto, was driving a northbound 2023 Kenworth towing a 2015 Trinity live bottom trailer loaded with potatoes when it struck Comer's vehicle.

Comer sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was not wearing a seatbelt. Fuglestad suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was using his seatbelt. Both drivers' charges are still under investigation.

The collision caused the trailer to detach from the Kenworth truck, resulting in spilled produce on the roadway.
