State Board of Animal Health sets June meeting with diverse agenda

The State Board of Animal Health is scheduled to convene on Wednesday, June 11, at 9 a.m. The meeting will take place in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture's conference room located on the sixth floor of the State Capitol.

The draft agenda includes several items for discussion: introductions and roll call, approval of minutes from the March 12 meeting, updates from various departments such as ND Game and Fish Department, ND Department of Health & Human Services, NDSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, ND Stockmen’s Association, Independent Beef Association of North Dakota (I-BAND), USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) Wildlife Services and Veterinary Services.

Other topics include animal disease traceability, auction market veterinarian issues, electronic health certificates, federal rules concerning electronic tags, feeder heifers, and Wyoming Livestock Board matters. Disease updates will cover high path avian influenza and brucellosis along with vaccination strategies for calfhood and adults.

Additional discussions will focus on farmed elk updates, nontraditional livestock updates including those related to high path avian influenza at the ND State Fair. The National Poultry Improvement Plan and field investigation reports are also slated for review alongside public health veterinarian updates and fiscal matters.

Inhumane care issues will be addressed during an executive session along with legislative sessions and violations. Other business includes upcoming meetings and events such as the USAHA Western States Meeting in Tucson from June 8-11; National Poultry Improvement Plan Meeting in Minneapolis from July 15-16; ND State Fair in Minot from July 18-25; ND Veterinary Medical Association Meeting in Medora from August 7-9; US SHIP Meeting in Minneapolis from September 2-4; ND Stockmen’s Convention in Minot from September 24-26; I-BAND Annual Meeting in Bismarck on October 4; USAHA Meeting in Denver from October 30 to November 5.

Some agenda items may be discussed during an executive session rather than publicly. If this is a regular meeting additional topics may arise while special or emergency meetings will limit discussions to listed topics only. Agenda items might shift order according to discretion by the President of the Board who also determines break times.
