The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is set to commence mowing along the shoulders of state highways starting mid-June, with completion expected by July 1. The mowing will cover a clearance of seven to ten feet, although additional mowing may occur earlier at highway intersections and in urban areas.

Landowners adjacent to non-interstate ditches who intend to mow for hay are advised to do so before the state undertakes its mowing activities. Mowing in medians of four-lane highways remains prohibited for private individuals.

State law mandates that hay bales be stored on the outer edge of the right of way. Large round bales must not be placed on inslopes or within 60 feet of the roadway. Additionally, all hay stored on the right of way must be removed by November 1 as per North Dakota regulations.
