The city of Mandan has announced adjustments to the staging and viewing areas for the 2025 Fourth of July Parade, necessitated by ongoing phases of the North Dakota Department of Transportation's (NDDOT) Memorial Highway reconstruction project.

According to the city of Mandan, starting in 2025, parade staging will occur along West Memorial Highway from Third Street SE to Mandan Avenue. This change eliminates public viewing on Memorial Highway during the event, directing spectators to Main Street and other designated viewing areas instead.

The Memorial Highway Reconstruction Project is anticipated to continue through 2025 and 2026. Detailed schedules and maps are available at cityofmandan.com/mhp. To accommodate the new parade staging, West Memorial Highway from Third Street SE to Mandan Avenue will close at 6 a.m. on July 4 and remain closed for the parade’s duration. However, business access will be maintained. The city advises parade viewers and attendees of Mandan Rodeo Days to anticipate slower traffic entering Mandan via Memorial Highway and encourages using alternate routes for timely arrival.

"As we prepare for another unforgettable Independence Day celebration in Mandan, I want to thank our residents, businesses and visitors for their flexibility and understanding as we navigate changes brought on by the Memorial Highway Reconstruction project," said Mayor Jim Froelich in a press release by the city of Mandan. "This vital infrastructure investment will improve safety and connectivity for decades to come." Froelich added that while this year's parade staging shift may temporarily impact some traditions, "it’s important to remember the spirit of the 4th of July in Mandan remains as strong as ever." He encouraged everyone to plan ahead and join in for a safe and festive day.

Mandan has an estimated population of 24,586 as of July 1, 2023, according to the State Data Center. Known for its historical roots as a village for the Mandan tribe, a cavalry fort, and a railroad hub, the city continues to grow. It hosts annual events such as Touch-A-Truck, Rodeo Days, and Buggies-n-Blues that attract thousands of visitors. The city offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, and museums.
