The Mandan Public School District has announced that Custer Elementary concluded the school year with a successful end-of-year fun day.
According to Custer Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), after the rain cleared, students participated in outdoor activities to mark the end of the school year. The event included a visit from Major and Deputy Tomlinson, and students received Dilly Bars courtesy of the Mandan Moose Lodge #425 and Mandan Moose Riders.
Custer Elementary PTO is a parent organization that supports the school through various events and activities. They are actively seeking more parental involvement, emphasizing research that links parental participation to student success. The PTO organizes fundraisers, end-of-year celebrations, and other activities aimed at enhancing students’ experiences. Meetings occur several times each school year, and increased participation is encouraged to bring fresh ideas that benefit the school and education.
Custer Elementary School operates a comprehensive Title I program providing reading, writing, and math support to all students through both pullout and in-class methods. The school conducts an annual review meeting to evaluate Title I program components such as student selection, curriculum, and parent involvement. It also has a Parental Involvement Action Plan focusing on communication, volunteering, and collaboration. Resources for parents on digital learning tools are available along with various volunteer opportunities.
The mission of the Mandan Public School District is to offer students rigorous and personalized learning experiences while aiding their development of social and emotional skills necessary for success. The Mandan School Board consists of nine members serving as the policy-making body for the district during formally called meetings only. The Board sets policies, approves budgets, establishes goals, manages property, and acts as a link between the district and the public. Board members participate in various district and non-district committees with standing committees focused on facilities, finance, policy, personnel, and student achievement. Dr. Mike Bitz serves as superintendent.
