The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has announced the start of the 2025 construction season with a news conference held in Bismarck. The event aimed to outline upcoming projects and emphasize work zone safety as travel increases during the summer months. This year's construction efforts will involve approximately $405 million dedicated to enhancing the state's highway system.
Key speakers at the conference included Matt Linneman, deputy director for engineering at NDDOT; Russ Hanson, executive vice president at Associated General Contractors of North Dakota; and Lt. Jenna Clawson Huibregtse from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
“We’re have a wide range of construction and maintenance projects planned this season to enhance safety and improve our transportation system,” stated Linneman. He urged motorists to remain vigilant, reduce speed, and prioritize safety in work zones.
Motorists are advised to adhere to several guidelines during road construction:
- Pay attention to signs and flaggers
- Slow down and obey posted speed limits
- Stay alert and minimize distractions while driving
- Be patient and expect delays
Lt. Clawson Huibregtse highlighted the importance of safety on roads, particularly in construction areas. “The safety of everyone on our roads, including those working in construction zones, must be a top priority,” she said. “Work zone safety starts with each of us. Drivers need to slow down, stay alert, and follow the signs. Keeping these zones safe is a responsibility we all share.”
Significant road construction projects across North Dakota include:
- Fargo Interstate 94 Red River bridge deck overlay
- Medora Business Loop and City Section improvements
- U.S. Highway 2 intersection realignment in Williston
