Farm to School equipment grants have been distributed to 13 recipients in North Dakota. These grants aim to enhance participation in the Farm to School program, which allows schools to incorporate locally sourced food into their lunch menus.
Eligibility for these grants required applicants to be a North Dakota producer, a K-12 school district participating in the National School Lunch Program, or an Early Childhood Education Center involved in the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring stated, “The program strengthens local food systems and promotes locally grown food for North Dakota children. The funding will help reduce barriers for both producers and institutions, increasing the volume and variety of local products served in meals.” He emphasized that "Farm to School efforts are proven to improve child nutrition, support local economies and educate children about food and agriculture."
