The Mandan Public School District announced that senior Monarch Project students participated in the United Tribes Technical College All School Powwow.
According to the Mandan Public School District, Jaime Chaske serves as the Monarch Student Success Coach in Mandan. The Monarch Project aims to support Native American high school students by providing resources and services to help them achieve their educational objectives.
The United Tribes Technical College International Powwow, held annually on the weekend after Labor Day, is a significant cultural event featuring competitive dancing and singing judged on skill, drum timing, and traditional regalia. Recognized as the "Home of the Champions," this large outdoor powwow gathers Native communities where traditional dances such as men’s and women’s traditional, grass, and fancy dances are performed. Each dance features unique movements and regalia. The event celebrates heritage through music, dance, artisan goods, and shared customs. Specific etiquette guides respectful behavior at the event, including seeking photo permission, honoring elders, and donating during blanket dances.
The mission of the Mandan Public School District is to provide students with rigorous and personalized learning experiences while helping them develop social and emotional skills for success. The Mandan School Board consists of nine members serving as the policy-making body for the district with authority only during formally called meetings. According to the district, the Board sets policies, approves budgets, establishes goals, manages property, and links the district with the public.
The Board members also serve on various district and non-district committees. Members include President Sheldon Wolf, Rick Horn, Amy Schanandore, Marnie Piehl, Kama Hoovestol, Darren Haugen, Lori Furaus, Tom Peters, and Jake Schmidt. The Board operates with standing committees focused on facilities, finance, policy, personnel, and student achievement. Dr. Mike Bitz is noted as the superintendent.
