The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is organizing a public input meeting on May 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. CT, to discuss changes in traffic signals and lighting along U.S. Highway 85 near Watford City.

The meeting will take place at the McKenzie County Courthouse located at 201 5th St. NW, Watford City. It will follow an open house format.

Key aspects of the project include the removal of traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. 85 and 2nd Avenue Southwest (U.S. 85B). The current signal system comprises wood poles with span wire mounted signal heads, while the existing lighting system will remain unchanged. This intersection will transition to stop sign control for east and west approaches.

A new permanent traffic signal and lighting system is planned for installation at the intersection of U.S. 85 and North Dakota Highway 68.

Representatives from NDDOT will be present to address questions and concerns from attendees.

Materials related to the meeting can be accessed on the NDDOT website at www.dot.nd.gov/public-input.

For those unable to attend, written comments are welcome until June 4, 2025. Comments should include “Public Input Meeting - PCN 24131” in their heading or subject line and be sent to Spencer Ulvestad at either his mailing address, 608 E Blvd. Ave., Bismarck, ND 58505, or via email at sulvestad@nd.gov.

NDDOT assures that all requests for reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities will be considered to ensure accessibility during the meeting. Language interpretation and translation services can also be requested for this event.
