Williams County Vector Control District (WCVCD) has announced a ground adulticide mosquito spray operation scheduled for tonight, May 13, in Williston’s Spray Block 8. The decision to proceed is contingent on weather conditions, specifically wind speeds between 12 and 15 MPH. If gusts exceed this range, the spraying will be postponed to ensure safety and effectiveness.

The action comes after recent trap results indicated a need to control the mosquito population before anticipated weather changes could hinder efforts later in the week. Residents are advised to maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from Vector Control trucks during fogging operations.

WCVCD employs Zenivex E20 for adult mosquito control treatments. This product contains Etofenprox as its active ingredient and is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in residential areas.

To minimize mosquito bites, residents are encouraged to take precautions when outdoors from dusk until dawn during summer months. Recommendations include wearing long-sleeved, tight-knit clothing, limiting outdoor activities during peak hours, and using repellents such as DEET, Picardin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Additionally, eliminating standing water on properties can help prevent mosquito re-population.
