Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is prompting students, families, and schools to join National Bike & Roll to School Day on May 7. This yearly event focuses on encouraging active transportation, fostering healthy habits, and promoting safe routes for walking and biking to school.
"Biking to school gets kids moving and feeling good, but it also brings them together," stated Katie Johnke, Nutrition and Health Promotion Coordinator at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health. "It’s a chance to connect with friends and build healthy routines that benefit both physical health and emotional well-being."
The event began as a grassroots campaign to promote physical activity and has expanded into a national movement. The day emphasizes the joy and independence of active travel while increasing awareness about safe infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion, environmental benefits, and the importance of community-building.
Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health encourages all schools and community partners to take part and help spread awareness about making streets safer and healthier for everyone.
