During North Dakota Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week, Cass County will conduct a full-system test of its outdoor siren warning system. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, at 11:15 a.m. Residents are encouraged to review and practice their tornado sheltering plans by going to their designated shelter areas.

In the event of hearing sirens when a test is not scheduled, it is crucial to seek shelter indoors immediately and tune into local media, such as local broadcast channels or radio, for further instructions from local officials. This may include information provided by the National Weather Service. It is advised not to assume there's no emergency due to clear skies, as emergencies might not always be weather-related.

Residents are reminded to only call 9-1-1 in case of an actual emergency. For any questions regarding the siren system, they may contact the Office of Emergency Management at (701) 476-4068.

The siren system is designed primarily as an outdoor warning mechanism. It might be difficult to hear indoors during an event, especially in high winds or adverse weather conditions. To ensure reliable indoor warning, Cass County Emergency Management recommends signing up for Cass Clay Alerts and using a NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology.
