The Mandan Public School District announced that students from Mr. Miller's Problems of Democracy II classes at Mandan High School visited the State Capitol and met briefly with Governor Kelly Armstrong. This announcement was made in a Facebook post on April 21, 2025.
Mandan High School, located in Mandan, North Dakota, is led by Principal Mark Andresen. The school requires new students to provide identification through student records or a certified birth certificate. Transfer students must submit a satisfactory transcript and a North Dakota Department of Health Certificate of Immunization.
Governor Armstrong has been serving as North Dakota’s 34th governor since December 2024. He previously held positions as a U.S. representative and state senator and is recognized for his support of energy development, agriculture, and conservative fiscal policies.
The mission of the Mandan Public School District is to offer rigorous and personalized learning experiences while fostering social and emotional skills among students. The district's policy-making body, the Mandan School Board, consists of nine members who have authority only during formally called meetings. They are responsible for setting policies, approving budgets, establishing goals, managing property, and connecting the district with the public.
According to the district, board members also participate in various committees both within and outside the district. The current board includes President Sheldon Wolf and members Rick Horn, Amy Schanandore, Marnie Piehl, Kama Hoovestol, Darren Haugen, Lori Furaus, Tom Peters, and Jake Schmidt. Dr. Mike Bitz serves as the superintendent.
