The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has announced an upcoming study focused on identifying and categorizing safety countermeasures to improve future project selection and implementation. The Safety Policy Study aims to use the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe System Approach to help achieve a Vision Zero goal, aimed at eliminating or reducing severe injuries and deaths from transportation-related incidents. The study will involve several regional partners, including the City of Bismarck, the City of Mandan, the City of Lincoln, Burleigh County, and Morton County.
In an effort to gather public feedback for the study, the MPO will host a Touch-a-Truck event on Main Street in Mandan, which will be open to the public at no cost. Additionally, individuals can submit their input in writing until May 31, 2025, by addressing correspondence to Luke Champa at SRF Consulting Group, or by utilizing the dedicated project website.
"The Bismarck-Mandan MPO will consider every request for reasonable accommodation," the organization stated. This commitment includes making event facilities accessible for people with disabilities, providing language interpretation for those with limited English proficiency, and offering translations of materials necessary to access MPO programs and information.
To facilitate requests for accommodations related to disabilities or language assistance, the MPO advises individuals to contact the Title VI/ADA Coordinator no later than ten days before the event. They can be reached by phone or email, with TTY options available.
