Senator John Hoeven cast his vote in favor of a resolution to disapprove a Biden-era energy regulation concerning water heaters. The regulation, set by the Department of Energy (DOE), focused on increasing energy efficiency standards for new tankless water heaters by 11 to 15 percent. This implementation would have led to approximately 40% of the current market options being phased out, pushing consumers toward more costly alternatives, with an estimated price increase of $450.
Senator Hoeven expressed opposition to the rule, stating: “We voted to overturn the Biden administration’s overly stringent standards for tankless water heaters that would have removed the most affordable options from the market.” He emphasized the importance of consumer choice, asserting, “Americans should be able to choose the water heater that works best for their budget and their home, not forced to use a more expensive alternative.”
The regulation faced criticism for potentially limiting consumer options by effectively banning more affordable tankless water heater models.
