Public safety organizations across the nation annually acknowledge the essential role of public safety telecommunicators who handle emergency calls, dispatch professionals, and provide life-saving assistance.

The Central Dakota Communications Center (CenCom) is set to commemorate this contribution during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, which takes place in the second full week of April, from April 13 to 19. This period is dedicated to honoring the numerous individuals who serve as a vital connection between those in crisis and the help they need.

The event has received official recognition from the CenCom Board, the City of Bismarck, the City of Mandan, and Burleigh County, highlighting the dedication of CenCom staff.

The partnership involving the City of Bismarck, City of Mandan, and Burleigh County is supported by an authorized staff of 31, including 24 Communications Specialists, four Supervisors, an Administrative Assistant, an Assistant Communications Director, and a Communications Director. The center is equipped with 12 workstations.

In the year 2024, CenCom handled 36,691 emergency calls, totaling 166,401 calls. They managed 195,555 Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) events and responded to 84,409 calls for service. These figures illustrate the capacity of CenCom in providing dispatch services for law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, and other public services across Mandan, Bismarck, and Burleigh County.

More information can be found on CenCom's official webpage.
