The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library is set to host a Prairie Public free preview screening of "Free for All: The Public Library," as part of Indie Lens Pop-Up presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS, and Prairie Public. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, and will take place in Meeting Room A from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
"Free for All: The Public Library" is a documentary that sheds light on the creation of libraries as civic institutions accessible to everyone. Directed by Dawn Logsdon, the film highlights historical and contemporary figures who, particularly women, have played significant roles in establishing libraries as pillars of democracy. The screening will present a shortened preview version of the film.
The documentary traces the evolution of America's public libraries, examining the challenges they face, including access, collection management, and governance decisions, while also exploring the broader concepts of public spaces.
Attendance at the screening is open to the public at no cost. However, attendees are encouraged to RSVP through prairiepublic.ticketbud.com to secure their spot.
