The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library is set to host a public event as part of the Indie Lens Pop-Up series presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS, and Prairie Public. The event will feature a preview screening of "Free for All: The Public Library," a film that highlights the evolution of the public library system in the United States. The documentary focuses on the individuals, particularly women, who have played significant roles in establishing the public library as a vital civic institution.

Director Dawn Logsdon captures the history and current state of public libraries, examining their role within a democratic society and the ongoing debates influencing their future. The film sheds light on issues such as access, censorship, and the evolving nature of public spaces.

Sarah Matthews, Head of Adult Programming, is the point of contact for further information. The event will take place on Thursday, April 24, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm in Meeting Room A at the library. The screening is open to people of all ages and media representatives are welcome. Admission is free, although attendees are encouraged to RSVP online.

For more details, attendees can visit the library's media page, or contact Sarah Matthews at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library.

Kevin R. Tengesdal, the library's Public Information Specialist, issued the announcement.
